Standing as a sort of sentinel against the tide of time, the iconic rock fortress, known as Sigiriya is a truly breathtaking sight to behold. One of the ‘must do’ activities at this UNESCO World Heritage Site is to make the reasonably easy trek up to the summit, while taking in the iconic frescos of the heavenly maidens, the mirror wall and the gigantic Lion Paws carved solely out of rock.

Sri Lanka’s most ancient kingdom is that of Anuradhapura, however, with its destruction, the privilege was passed on to the Polonnaruwa Kingdom. At the height of its reign, Polonnaruwa was a self-sufficient and highly advanced citadel. Today, it’s a famed UNESCO heritage site home to many ruins that serves as a reminder of city’s once glorious past.

Horton Plains is bordered by Sri Lanka’s second and the third highest mountain peaks and is situated in the Central Highlands at an altitude ranging from 6,900 ft. - 7,500 ft. The vast terrains of the plains feature stunning waterfalls such as Slab Rock Falls and Bakers Falls towering grandly among the lush evergreen forests. The Udawalawe National Park is one of the biggest wildlife sanctuaries in Sri Lanka. The sanctuary was created to provide an alternate natural home for animals displaced by the building of the Udawalawe Reservoir and to protect its catchment area. Situated on the boundary of Sri Lanka’s wet and dry zones, the vegetation is light and sparse which makes its easy to observe wildlife.
